Who Should Have MLD (and who should not)?

Who should NOT have MLD?

MLD - it's not right for everyone
MLD - it's not right for everyone

As with other forms of massage, there are some conditions that mean that MLD can't be carried out. If any of the following relates to you, let your massage therapist know as you may not be able to get MLD:

  • Currently undergoing treatment for cancer or undiagnosed lump

  • Pregnant

  • Any type of thrombosis

  • Serious heart or circulatory condition

  • Malignant melanomas

  • An active fever

  • Certain contagious diseases

Other than the above, most people can get MLD treatment. It is worth bearing in mind however, that if you are a generally healthy, active person your lymphatic system is probably already doing a good job and may not need MLD. You can always help your lymphatic system in other ways by following the ideas I write about here.

Who should have MLD Treatments?

If any of the following relate to you, professional MLD treatments could be of benefit:

  • Frequent colds and flu

  • Sinus problems - including hay fever

  • Allergies

  • Skin conditions - including acne, rosacea and scarring from surgery

  • Pre/post operative

  • ME / chronic fatigue

  • Glandular fever

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Lymphedema

  • Brain fog

  • Rheumatoid arthritis

  • Stress / anxiety

  • Long term low energy

  • Cellulite

  • Sedentary lifestyles / mobility issues

  • Puffiness or swelling in legs, ankles or around the eyes

  • Digestive problems

This list isn't exclusive, there are other medical issues that could be helped by MLD. If you are unsure if MLD is right for you either talk to your GP about it, or discuss the options with me (or another massage therapist that offers MLD). In most cases I'm happy to do a 15 minute 'trial' of MLD at the start of any massage session to see how your mind and body respond to the treatment.
